A Maidan activist robbed Lvov residents who sheltered him. Lvov, 12.03.2014

A 22-year-old man from the Don, who had been wounded on the Maidan, robbed a family which housed him. He stole $2600, €1000, two gold rings and ear-rings. He is now wanted.

Olga Shevchuk, the citizen of Lvov who was robbed, published this story on Facebook. She said that Gennady Duravkin, an orphan from Donetsk, was a member of the 9^th sotnia (or ‘hundred’ – a squad of armed activists). “He spent two month on the Maidan and took part in the clashes on 18-20 February. He was injured and so he came to Lvov to get treatment,” she wrote.

At first Gennady lived at Maryana Shevchuk and her husband’s house but then her parents provided him a room in their house in Belogorshch. They were also members of the 9^th sotnia of Maidan Self-defence.

Gennady had lived in Belogoshch since 5 March. But on 11 March, Tuesday, he stole money, jewelry and a bicycle and disappeared. He left light and a gas-stove switched on (he did not screw the gas valve). Maryana Shevchuk says that Gennady Duravkin has a distinguishing mark, which is the lack of the upper teeth.

The Zheleznodorozhny regional police department of Lvov has already initiated criminal proceedings under Ukrainian Criminal Rule 185 (which is larceny, punished by a fine of up to 50 minimum rates of labour payment, or corrective labour for up to two years, or imprisonment for up to three years.

Outside forces under the guise of Maidan Self-defence try to destabilize situation in Kiev and other regions of the country. Andriy Parubiy, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine (SNBO), said it at the briefing broadcast by the Ukrainian 112 Ukraina TV channel. “We have a common problem. After Maidan a number of both criminal gangs and looters under the veil of Self-defence try to destabilize situation in Kiev and other regions of the country. Moreover, we are informed that these groups are controlled by groups from abroad, they are controlled from Russia. The image of instability in Ukraine was created on purpose and, in fact, Putin speaks frequently in this manner. He claims that some actions in Kiev are illegal,” said Mr. Parubiy.

“That is why above all we notify that any self-defence after Maidan has nothing in common with Maidan Self-defence. And many looters who acted under this guise acted not only illegally but also immoraly. And in fact, these incidents, which really happened, do not only have anything in common with Maidan but contradict its idea on the whole,” stressed the Secretary of SNBO.
