Today’s meeting of the Poltava City Council’s special 40th session could not begin once again because of the Right Sector’s activist Vladimir Vovk who stood at the doors of the session hall. Referring to this fact Alexandr Mamay, the mayor of Poltava, denied starting the session. His announcement was listened by 7 MPs from the Batkivshchyna faction and public.
Aleksandr Mamay failed the first attempt to escape from the session hall. Vladimir Vovk claimed that the mayor kneed him into groin. At some point Aleksandr Mamay asked several guards to come up to him. Enlisting their support he tried to get out again and for a moment he seemed to succeed. However, he was pulled back being called bad names and a fight started. After people calmed down slightly, Georgy Karpichenko, the assistant of the city police Chief Officer, announced that capturing a mayor is illegal and the police, Alexandr Mamay and Vladimir Vovk (who had filed a police report against the mayor) set off to the city police station for conducting legal proceedings.
In the lobby there stood a guard who had been securing the order in the City Council for many years. He was holding on his ear and said that he had got a violent blow but would not apply to police.
