113. A Ukrainian MP complains about racketeers from Self-defence. Kiev, 13.03.2014
Oksana Kaletnik, a Ukrainian MP from the Communist Party, applied to the Minister of Internal Affairs with a request to take a close look at Maidan Self-defence which in her opinion deals with racket.
“I have just got a call from the hotel and catering complex Tripolye. About 21:30 four men came there. They were wearing black bubble coats and training trousers. They entered the restaurant and called for a manager. They said that they came on behalf of Self-defence in order to nationalize the complex and demanded to prepare the documents for “turning the complex over to the people” in 24 hours. Showing a Kalashnikov gun, they gave to the manager two bottles with the Molotov cocktail and told him to deliver them to the management,” wrote the MP on Facebook. After this incident Kaletnikova has some questions to the Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. Avakov.
“You claimed that the police together with Self-defence administer the law. How then should we make of this situation? Do the police shelter gangsters who will grab people’s business, threatening with guns? Or is it impudent tramps, imposters who take the name of Self-defense? Or the police are just afraid to take proper measures for protection of law because of fear to rap somebody on the knuckles? If you take on managing the Ministry of Internal Affairs, then do take certain measures to stop this chaos and a bout of crime,” said the MP.
