February 24, a fight occurred between members of public and representatives of the city authorities at the burial service over Aleksey Bratushko, died in the Maidan, Lubimye Sumy reports.
Several thousand of Sumy residents gathered on Teatralnaya Square met Mayor shouting ‘Shame!’ and ‘Resign!’. They did not let him enter Shchepkin’s theatre, where the ceremony took place, spit at him, pelted with eggs and escorted along the central streets right to his house.
‘Unfortunately, a confusing incident took place – Mayor Minaev was not let approach to the coffin, what is more, they swore at him and pushed away from the square. Dear residents of Sumy! I beg you not to repeat it, it’s wrong! Whatever Mayor were, he didn’t kill or injure anyone. You’d better show your anger not upon a coffin of a dead man, but in the Maidan, defending the country. There is no any heroism in attacking two defenseless people by a crowd, trust me! You just had to send Mayor into the common queue and made him wait as everyone else. He and his wife have a right to take leave with a Maidan hero at least because their own son have been being in the Maidan from the first to the last day and he is still there. So it’s all for nothing, keep yourself in hand and turn your anger at purging of the government,’ wrote Evgeny Polozhy, a public activist, on Facebook.
