Processing Hardware
Hardware is the term we use to describe the computer's physical components — the machine itself. Hardwareis any and all the components or physical devices — those things we can touch and feel — that make up a computer system. We're going to take a personal computer apart, figuratively speaking, so you can see what these hardware components actually look like and where they are physically located. As you already know, most of the PC components are located within the system unit.
As we discuss personal computer hardware, use the Computer Anatomy transparencies in The Way Things Work. The Computer Anatomy is designed to illustrate how a computer is assembled and how its various hardware components interact with one another. We'll start with the basic electronic circuitry inside the system unit and work our way out to the peripheral devices.
